Exploit

An exploit is code or a technique that takes advantage of a software vulnerability to cause unintended behavior, typically gaining unauthorized access or executing arbitrary commands. Exploits range from proof-of-concept demonstrations to weaponized payloads deployed by attackers.

The existence of a public exploit for a vulnerability dramatically increases the urgency for patching, as reflected in the KEV catalog and EPSS scores.
