CIS Security Benchmarks

Definition

CIS Benchmarks are consensus-developed configuration guidelines for operating systems, cloud platforms, containers, and applications. Each benchmark provides scored and unscored recommendations at two levels: Level 1 (practical, minimal performance impact) and Level 2 (defense-in-depth for high-security environments).

CSPM tools use CIS Benchmarks as the basis for cloud posture assessments.
