Definition
Amazon EBS provides persistent block storage volumes for EC2 instances. EBS volumes are automatically replicated within their availability zone and offer multiple volume types optimized for different performance and cost tradeoffs (gp3 for general purpose, io2 for high IOPS databases, st1 for throughput-intensive workloads).
EBS snapshots enable point-in-time backups stored in S3.
