IOPS
Input/Output Operations Per Second
Definition
IOPS measures the number of read and write operations a storage device or service can perform per second. Databases and transactional workloads are IOPS-sensitive — insufficient IOPS causes queue depth buildup and latency spikes.
Cloud storage services offer IOPS tiers (AWS EBS gp3 provides 3,000 IOPS baseline) and allow provisioning higher IOPS for demanding workloads.
