Throughput

Network or Storage Throughput

Definition

Throughput is the amount of data successfully transferred in a given time period, measured in MB/s or GB/s for storage and Mbps/Gbps for networks. While latency measures the delay for a single request, throughput measures overall capacity for sustained data transfer.

Throughput-optimized storage (AWS st1 EBS volumes) sacrifices IOPS consistency for sequential read/write performance in streaming workloads.
